How to make spring cleaning more magical

In early 2020, just before the COVID pandemic, I decided to finally deal with the years of baby and toddler clothes my husband and I had stored in our guest room “just in case.”

This was a tearful experience — but it became easier knowing I could turn my daughter’s most precious onesies and pajamas into three memory quilts

I sorted the “keepers” into three piles:

  1. Pastel-colored clothing for a quilt for Grandma (my mom)
  2. Primary colors for Nana (my mother-in-law)
  3. All of the cozy, fleece, footie PJs for my now-7-year-old. Those were always her favorites.

I shipped the clothes to a talented woman on Etsy who specializes in turning them into quilts, and about 7 months later, she sent back three instant family heirlooms, which made *amazing* Christmas gifts

Again, this was a painful purge, but we cleared that guest room to make space for my next creative project:

My “Office of Magic,” a room with a Harry Potter/Hogwarts vibe.

I went “shopping” around the house for the furniture and spent about $500 to create a space where I can focus on my telework and let the creativity flow.

Questions to ponder this spring:

  • Do you have a designated space to get into a creative flow?
  • How could the space help you make more magic? What tools do you need? What inspires you?
  • Where do you want to radically focus your energy?
